Leaving It to the Last Minute Leads to Fine

HouseThe wisdom of dealing with things in a timely fashion was re-emphasised when a fine for the late filing of a Stamp Duty Development Tax return was confirmed by the First-tier Tribunal (FTT).

The last date for filing was a Sunday. The person filing the return took it home to file over the weekend via the Internet. However, technical problems prevented this, so instead they filed the return on the Monday – one day late.

The fact that it was not possible to file the return over the weekend did not move the FTT, which ruled that it could not cancel the late filing penalty.
