Leicester Solicitors, Josiah Hincks acted for The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and the Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust in completing a land and asset swap involving areas of land and buildings at the Leicester General Hospital site and the Glenfield General Hospital site. The Trusts have been working on the asset transfer for approximately 12 years in an attempt to rationalise their respective property portfolios with a view to them moving forward with their applications for Foundation Trust status.
Mr Robert Pinsent, Director of Facilities of the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust said "the Leicester Partnership Trust will be looking to apply some of the proceeds of sale from the Towers Hospital site towards its expansion and refurbishment plan for the Glenfield site. University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust wanted to consolidate its land holding at the Glenfield Hospital campus and to reduce its asset ownership on the Leicester General Hospital site".
The parties agreed Heads of Terms in February this year and instructed Neil Head of local solicitors Josiah Hincks, 22 De Montfort Street, Leicester to act on their behalf. The Leicester Partnership NHS Trust used Bevan Brittan's Bristol Office.
The estimated value of the assets transferred was £40 million. Neil Head said "once the Heads of Terms were agreed both parties wanted to complete quickly, fortunately we were able to conclude the deal on time. In all there were 7 Transfers of freehold titles to be prepared and 16 Leases back".
